Wii Shop Channel Empty Wii Shop Channel

Post by CardboardLuigi Sat 30 Sep 2017, 9:19 am

Welp, Nintendo's finally closing down the Wii Shop Channel.
It won't accept any point after late in March and the shop itself will close down in January of 2019.

Let's discuss memories and/or recommended downloads.

Wii Shop Channel Empty Re: Wii Shop Channel

Woah oh my goodness!! I gotta get some games someday before then cause the Wii shop channel has a much better selection than that of the Wii U one. I really wanna get a childhood game of mine over again, Ecco the Dolphin, I never got to play through it but I had it on my Wii when I was younger but I don't now. ;v; also Smash Bros is something I saw on there, Phantasy Star series seems really cool too, even Princess Tomato of the Salad Kingdom, I should go on there again sometime and take a looksie. >v<

Wii Shop Channel Empty Re: Wii Shop Channel

Oh wow, I didn't even know the Wii channel shop was still around. I just assumed it was gone, back when they kicked the online features for the DS and Wii. With that being said, maybe I'll hook my Wii up and back up any games I purchased that aren't on the system. I kind of thought you were meaning the Wii U shop channel was going to be dropped next year, before I fully read your post.

Also I might buy the whole Final Fantasy 4 After Years bundle. Or not...FF4 was a really great game though. As for Phantasy Star, I can't say it has aged that well. Plus it's one of those games from the NES era where they just made everything incredibly too challening/difficult, because the games were so short.

Oh! The Lost Winds...you guys got to try that game. It's super short, but it's just so whimsical. That's defintely a game I need to upload again.

Oh my, Joe! When I was little my mom bought that Lost Winds game I had forgotten it even existed till now! XD It wasn't something I played a lot but all I remember is using the wind to move around, which seemed pretty cool. ^v^ and Phantasy Star does seem like it might be a game like that but I was thinking of another one of the series maybe, I mean Mother was hard too I'm willing to give challenge a shot. Although available for other platforms as well, I recommend getting Monster World IV. Originally released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive only in Japan until it got a fully translated international release in 2012. You control Asha, a warrior in training, as she goes on a journey to help a spirit that called for her. It's a very solid and fun platformer.
I also recommend Retro City Rampage- a love letter to retro gaming done in the style of GTA.

The Lost Winds, eh? I'll have to try that out sometime.

EDIT: I accidentally called it "Lost Woods."

Wii Shop Channel Empty Re: Wii Shop Channel

Well it does take place in an enchanted forest of some sort. I honestly can't remember much about the game myself Zeldy. I do remember liking it, however. I have the two Lost Wind games bought, so I might need to redownload them onto my Wii before it's too late. On top of anything else I purchased.

If you plan on playing Phantasy Star, just know that Phantasy Star 3 is seen as the blacksheep of the series. The game takes place in like a medival fantasy world, whereas all other games stick to the original roots of being retro sci-fi. It also focuses on three different generations instead of sticking to one timeline/cast of characters. So it can get a bit confusing and or messy. Just throwing that out there. Also it's normally agreed that the ranking of best is as follow Phantasy Star 4, 1, 2, and lastly 3. And it's also hugely agreed that PS4 is the best one to start off as a newcomer. Hope you enjoy your playthroughs, if you decide to try them!

I never heard of either Retro City Rampage or Monster World IV. I'll have to check both of them out on the channel. My first thought came to that old game Rampage where a giant lizard, ape, and wolf attack a city. Monster World looks so familiar for some reason...feels like the art was done by the author of Dragon Ball or one of those old time anime/mangas. I actually have to hook up my Wii to actually remember what games I bought. The only ones I remember are The Lost Winds, Kain's story from FF4 After Years, and Donkey Kong Country...but I'm pretty sure I bought more than that.
